18-25   A general shot showing a "little and large" pair.  Ore extraction used the smaller machine which is a type 490D shovel caterpillar Ransomes & Rapier works number 1256 of 1941.  It had a 2.5 cu. yds. bucket and a 36 feet long boom.  It arrived in c 1954 from Finedon Quarries.  Departure from Blisworth was probably in 1968.

These details and those alongside the next picture are from Steve Purcell.

18-26   Stages in the construction in the 1950s of the large machine for removal of over-burden.  This steel frame was built first and bodily raised to sit on top of the motor house - see below.

The machine which is the subject of the next few pictures is a type 5360 E Shovel Ransomes & Rapier Works number 669 of 1937.  The capacity of the bucket is 9 cu.yds. and the main boom is 104 feet long.  It was shipped from Finedon Quarries c.1954 and was moved on to Buckminster Quarries in 1968.

The machine was:

Type W90 E Walking dragline
