THE BLISWORTH TAPESTRY PROJECT

September 2006 - the artwork has been completed by local artist Phil Cahill - a copy of this is shown here. The route by which this is converted into prints onto tapestry canvas has been established. The intention is to hang the tapestry in the newly opened Coffee Shop associated with the Baptist Chapel.  This will be a first phase of the project.  A large number of ladies, most of whom are from the village, are ready to begin the work. The project is being run by Carol Arnall who has managed to secure sufficient funds for the first phase of the work, being to create a tapestry panel depicting the 'Village Now' - to be finished in 2007.

Many of the subdivision panels of the artwork have been started as tapestry onto an appropriate canvas. It is necessary to interpret colours from the original artwork in a manner that is compatible with the wool colours which are available - whilst keeping an eye on the colour match between elements on neighbouring panels. Artists in the village are preparing artwork for the second phase which consists of six panels, roughly a metre square, which depict the history of the village from Roman times to the 21st Century. It is hoped that some of these artworks may be shown here on the website.

The originator of the central artwork representing the "Village Now" is Phil Cahill of Blisworth.  The central panel as a finished work was unveiled by Sir Hereward Wake on December 15th, 2007 to much applause from the assembled villagers - a truly stupendous effort.  The final panel has been crafted with rather darker colours than shown alongside here and is set upon a dark crimson panel in lieu of a repainted wall in the Coffee Room.  Spotlights are planned to be used to "bring out the colours".

The smaller panel, to the left, gives an impression of the final project including Phase II in which there will be six panels to deal with the history of the village from Roman times to the present.  The six tapestry panels are to be finished in 2008/9.  The artwork for them was however finished in September 2007 and was mounted alongside the centre panel for the unveiling day.  It is hoped the artworks are copies and will remain in place.
