By 1838 the Grafton Survey map shows this area set out for approx. 100 allotments.  It was set to ironstone mining later in the 19th century and allowed to revert to allotments by the 1930s.  Housing has encroached on the southern border but there remain to this day some 4 acres of productive village allotments.
