Courteenhall Road corner.  The path to the south was known as "The Back Way" c. 1880.  It provided alternative access to Shutlanger ("shittlehanger"   hanger = a copse of wood from which good shittles = arrows are made).  There was also access to the rear gate of numerous paddocks with a very large expanse of common land on the east side of the path - very much a medieval layout.  Since 1950 the path has been a bridleway denoted as "RD2".
